Our History

TCFG was founded by Garrett Toay. He was born and raised on a working farm in northwestern Illinois.  After graduating from Iowa State University with a degree in Agricultural Business, he accepted a position as a commercial grain broker with FC Stone out of their Champaign, IL office.  Garrett started what became TCFG in March 2004.  Garrett has spent time reporting markets for AM 640 WOI, Iowa Public Radio.  He also wrote commentary for the Iowa Farmer Today.  To contact Garrett, click (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

TCFG is registered as an non-guaranteed introducing broker with the National Futures Association.  Our initial clearing relationship was with Tenco, who’s focus was on commercial grain accounts.  In 2007, we initiated another clearing relationship with R.J. O’Brien in order to provide service to farmers and our clientele in South America.

David Marshall joined TCFG in 2007 as a branch manager located in Nashville, IL.  Dave operates a farmer focused branch servicing the St. Louis region.  Dave has experience as a grain merchandiser in southwest Illinois and has operated a branch office with Mid Co Commodities servicing farmers in southwest Illinois since 1989 prior to joining TCFG.  To contact Dave, click (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Kevin Pennerjoined TCFG in January 2010.  Kevin has been a licensed commodities broker since 2008.  He works with producers across the Midwest and is a licensed crop insurance agent.  To contact Kevin, click (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

Chris Knobloch joined TCFG as an associated person in 2009.  Chris formerly owned River Valley Marketing Service out of Momence, IL.  He services the Kankakee, IL region.  Chris is a licensed crop insurance agent.

Brian Brandt joined TCFG in January 2011.  Brian has been a licensed commodity broker since 1990.  He started farming at Brandt Farms in 1985, on a corn and soybean farm in Stephenson County Illinois.  He’s the 5th generation to operate his family farm.  Brian graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Platteville in 1983 with a degree in Ag Education.  He also has developed “The Crop Profitizer” a comprehensive analytical spreadsheet that is used to visualize the net effect of dovetailing Marketing and Crop Insurance into a total risk management solution.  Brian is the branch manager at our Pearl City, Illinois branch.  To contact Brian, click (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

Tony McDonald joined TCFG in April 2011.  He grew up working on a family farm in west central Iowa where he is still involved in the operation.  He graduated from Iowa Lakes Community College in 2008 with a degree in BioRenewable Fuels Technology and spent that summer in Brazil, learning about South American agriculture.  He graduated from Iowa State University in 2010 with a degree in Agricultural Business.  He has been a licensed crop insurance agent since November 2011 and a licensed commodity broker since February 2012.  To contact Tony, click (JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)
